Godfrey Mugambi, a business leader in East Africa, has joined Mobisol GmbH as Managing Director for Tanzania.
Mr Mugambi brings a wealth of knowledge and senior management experience which he has built up over the past 28 years in the region. He has triumphed in several top positions in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, where he worked for more than 15 years. The key insights into the Tanzanian market which Mr Mugambi has gained in his career make him uniquely placed to best serve the needs of residents there.

Since Mobisol introduced its German-engineered and designed solar energy products to Tanzania in 2012, it has built up a network of 44 stores, including two flagships, in the majority of regions in the country. This network is bringing light and energy to 100,000 customers and counting, which translates into 500,000 households. The German-headquartered company employs 400 full-time staff in Tanzania, as well as 1,000 agents and contractors.
Mr Mugambi’s last assignment in the country was Sales Director at Airtel Tanzania. He was instrumental in setting up the Airtel Tanzania Zonal business model and he launched Airtel Money in 2010. Before that, he spearheaded distribution and channel partner management in the team credited with turning around Celtel Uganda, the first telecom company in East Africa, when it was on the verge of closure. Mobisol is confident that Mr Mugambi’s leadership skills will deliver exceptional value, support and innovation to our customers.

After gaining a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Sociology at the University of Nairobi in Kenya, Mr Mugambi achieved his MBA in Strategic Management at the MOI University. He is also a certified Digital Marketer by the Chartered Institute of Marketing in the UK and a trained Strategist by Harvard Business School. He said he was energised to take the next step in his multi-faceted career which has spanned telecoms, pharmaceuticals, tobacco and FMCG.
